When you’re trying to pick the best gifts for active kids, you need a specific kind to keep them busy. Active kids need toys that help them focus their energy. It needs to feel like fun, but be manageable inside a home.
In a day when most kids want to spend their time on video games, they need a little encouragement to get some exercise. They won’t always be willing to sit down and play a board game or quietly read a book. They need to get their muscles moving and get some play going on.
I have what my friend calls – Spicy Kids. That’s just a really nice way of saying that my kids are not calm and quiet.
We live in Oregon — where it rains a lot. Much of the year they can’t go outside to play because rain means squishy, muddy lawns. If they were to spend their days playing in the yard, my lawn would end up turning into a mud-wrestling pit. Not such a great idea.
This means … they have to do a lot of playing inside. But, without the right things to play, they could end up trashing the house. It makes me think of a Brady Bunch incident with a football.
So, through the years, we’ve come up with some really fun things for the kids to play with inside that are active, but not destructive or too crazy.

Ogo Disk
This is my favorite of all inside games to play. It can be played outside, but it’s really fun inside as well. I have been known to get a little competitive myself when playing with the kids.
The OgoBalls are soft and light, so they haven’t ever knocked anything off a shelf. This game also requires the kids to focus on what they’re doing in order to keep the ball in play. We’ve been using ours for years.

The best gift for active really kids. We’ve had a trampoline in our house for years and years. It’s not only great exercise for the kids but for grown-ups too. This one with the bar works well for little ones just learning how to jump.
Indoor/Outdoor Slide
Did you ever think to have a slide inside? It is so fun to have one of these in your kids’ playroom. Not only will they slide down it over and over, but it can be used for dollies, cars, balls, stuffies, really … all kinds of play. The slide folds for easy storage, too. A favorite for toddlers and preschoolers.
Step-a-Logs
Creating an obstacle course for your kids is such a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon. You can use these step-a-logs along with some pillows, boxes, hula hoops, etc. to make a really fun course. Change things up every time you bring them out.

We have loved playing with this little soccer game so many times. It hovers across the floor from one kick to the next.

While we didn’t have this exact set, we did set up some swings and a bar in our garage for rainy days. I loved being able to send the kids out there to burn off some energy when they were getting in my hair. They were so happy to have it too.
